Raised in a musical family, Timo studied piano with his father, pianist and Professor of Music at the University of Maryland, Ron Elliston. After graduating, Timo moved to New York City, where he worked for several years as a pianist and accompanist. His debut CD release, The Cobbler’s Son, was called “an outstanding debut” by Jazz Review. The album features several original compositions for which Jazz Review said Timo was "well on his way to becoming one of the finest young jazz composers.” Well-regarded as an accompanist, Timo has worked with many leading vocalists including Stacey Kent, Rebecca Parris and Giacomo Gates.
As a film and television composer, Timo honed his skills writing for advertising, where he learned to work quickly and to adapt to numerous styles. His credits in film and television include the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival winner for Best Narrative Short, The Shovel; television shows for Discovery Channel, VH1, TLC and Fine Living; on-camera-music arranging and performing for Tamara Jenkins’ The Savages; and Barry Levinson’s short advertising films for American Express starring Jerry Seinfeld and Superman. In 2003, Timo was commissioned to arrange music for a tribute to George Balanchine, which featured the New York City Ballet and George Steel.
